👨🏫 Your paragliding instructor
👉 An instructor is the person who stays by your side, assigns tasks, monitors your progress, and provides training exercises suitable for your level. They play a decisive role in your paragliding development. Your progression should neither be too fast—due to safety concerns—nor too slow, as it may lead to frustration. If you are not satisfied with your progress, you should discuss it with your instructor. 👉 If you already have experience in aviation, you should inform your instructor. However, you must understand that each air sport is different, and you are expected to follow their guidance. If there are any disagreements or confusion, it’s important to communicate openly to avoid misunderstandings. 👉 Finally, remember that you are not competing with other students. Everyone progresses at their own pace, and there is no need to put yourself at risk just to push beyond your limits.
📓 Logging your flight data
👉 Flight data can be recorded in various ways, such as keeping a detailed logbook of each flight, including date, time, flying site, wing, flight duration, and weather conditions. This allows pilots to track their progress—from their first unsteady steps to ridge flights, and eventually to important XC milestones—while also keeping record of how many flights and total flying time they have accumulated over a specific period. 👉 Alternatively, you can use mobile applications to automatically record flight data (e.g., Flyskyhy, XCTrack, XCSoar, LK8000, etc.). These records can serve as evidence to validate your pilot level within certification or ranking systems.
💪 Health and fitness for paragliding
👉 Paragliding is not just for the young or physically strong. What matters is good health, alertness, coordination, and the ability to think clearly — it’s a sport of the mind as much as the body, where women are not at a disadvantage. 👉 In the early stages, training can be physically demanding, especially ground handling and carrying gear uphill. This is the hardest phase, so don’t lose motivation too soon. You should be in good health, without serious conditions such as heart disease, dizziness, or neurological issues, and not under medical treatment. 👉 Even if you are fit, fatigue can affect your judgment and reaction time. If you feel tired or unwell, it’s safer to land early — or better, not to take off at all.
🐄 Livestock and animals
👉 Avoid all livestock. If animals are gathered in an area, keep your distance and do not disturb them. 👉 Do not fly over areas where animals are nursing their young (e.g., lambs, calves, etc.). 👉 Do not bring dogs, cats (pets) to the flying site unless permitted, and they must be kept under control at all times.
🤝 Conduct and etiquette
👉 Drive carefully — paragliding groups are easily recognizable by gliders on car roofs or logos on vehicles. 👉 Be mindful when parking. You will need space to unpack and secure your gear, so avoid blocking traffic or interfering with flying operations, especially near landing zones. 👉 Use designated entrances only. Do not climb over walls or fences. 👉 Do not litter. Do not bring flammable materials into the flying area, and strictly no smoking or open fires. 👉 Be respectful to local residents. If any damage is caused to property (such as crops or houses), you are responsible for proper compensation.
🚑 Incident support
⚠️ Pilots are expected to support each other in the event of an incident, including communicating with rescue teams, assisting in rescue operations when necessary, and even landing to provide help if no other support is available and the affected pilot is unable to recover independently.
