There are many ways to admire the Muong Hoa Valley, but only one takes you above all of them: paragliding. And in Sapa, the name behind those flights is Sapa Paragliding — a brand built by people who fly for a living, operated to genuine air-sports safety standards, on a flight site that was purpose-designed rather than simply an open field put to use.

Sapa Paragliding operates tandem paragliding flights in Sapa as part of the private flight-site network founded and run by pilot Dang Van My. This is not a seasonal tourism add-on. Every element — terrain survey, take-off and landing zone design, operating procedures, pilot selection — was built by people who fly the site themselves, who read the wind and the terrain, and who carry personal responsibility for every flight.

That is the brand's core difference: flying with Sapa Paragliding is not buying a thrill ride. It is joining a professionally organised flight with defined procedures, defined standards, and a clearly accountable team behind it.

👨‍✈️ Founder: pilot Dang Van My

Sapa Paragliding was founded by pilot Dang Van My, one of the most technically and theoretically grounded paragliding pilots in Vietnam. He holds the APPI Parapro P5 certification alongside a P5 rating from the JHF (Japan) — the highest level in the pilot certification system.

He also set the Vietnamese record for the largest FAI triangle flight with a 100km closed course, became the first helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and translated the classic paragliding textbooks into Vietnamese: Thermal Flying, Cross-Country Flying, Mastering Paragliding and Understanding the Sky. In other words, the person behind the brand is not only a business owner — he helped build the knowledge base of the entire Vietnamese paragliding community.

🌍 A professional team: Vietnamese and international pilots

The Sapa Paragliding team brings together experienced Vietnamese pilots and international pilots — people who have flown sites around the world and brought international operating standards back to Sapa.

  • Every tandem pilot holds a valid rating and the required accumulated flight hours
  • Pilots are trained and directly supervised by the founder — one technical standard, one procedure for handling every situation
  • Equipment comes from the world's leading manufacturers: UP, Advance, NOVA, Air Vuisa (reserves), Kortel (harnesses)
  • Every set of equipment is inspected on a regular schedule and checked again before each flying session

For international visitors, a multinational pilot team is a direct advantage: passengers are briefed in a language they actually understand and know exactly what to do at each stage — which is what largely determines how safe and how comfortable a tandem flight will be.

🏞️ A flight site designed around safety

Our flight site is not an arbitrary location. The take-off and landing zones were surveyed, selected and prepared against technical criteria: prevailing wind direction, slope of the launch run, clearance for escape routes, and backup landing options.

The landing zone sits in Lao Chai village, right beside Lao Chai street — flat, spacious, with easy vehicle access for cars and shuttle buses, and set in the middle of the Muong Hoa terraced rice fields. Passengers touch down in one of the most beautiful spots in Sapa, rather than in a remote field that costs extra travel time to leave.

The entire site is roughly 15 minutes by car from central Sapa. That is why a paragliding tour here is remarkably compact: including hotel pickup and drop-off, the whole experience usually takes just about 90 minutes.

📋 Fully licensed, fully compliant

Sapa Paragliding operates its flight site with all permits required under current regulations for paragliding activity — including flight operation authorisation and the conditions required for organising air-sports activities.

  • ✅ The flight site holds a valid operating licence under applicable regulations
  • ✅ Insurance covers every passenger on every flight
  • ✅ Equipment checks and weather assessments are performed before each flying session
  • ✅ The decision to stop flying rests with the pilot — if wind, cloud or visibility conditions are not met, the flight is postponed or rescheduled

We believe a professional operator is one that is willing to say "not today." Turning down a flight when conditions do not allow it is not lost revenue — it is the standard of the profession.

🎁 All-inclusive, no hidden extras

Every flight at Sapa Paragliding is sold as a complete package. Passengers know exactly what they are getting before they book.

  • 🚐 Return hotel transfers within the central Sapa area, Ta van and Lao Chai village
  • 🪂 A tandem flight with a professional pilot over the Muong Hoa Valley, facing the Fansipan summit
  • 🛡️ Flight insurance
  • 🎥 GoPro video and photos throughout the flight
  • 📋 A ull safety briefing before take-off.

📅 When is the best time to fly in Sapa?

Sapa flies year-round, but the finest window is July through September, when green rice turns gold across the Muong Hoa Valley. This is also peak season, along with public holidays, so passengers should book ahead.

One piece of advice from our operations experience: book your flight for the first day of your trip. Paragliding depends on weather, and if day one is not flyable, you still have the remaining days as a fallback instead of missing out entirely.

Sapa Paragliding takes the harder route: a properly designed flight site, complete licensing, certified pilots, genuine equipment, and safety procedures we do not compromise on. It is why thousands of passengers each year — most of them international visitors — choose to fly with us when they come to Sapa.
