A Sunny Day at the Sapa Paragliding Site

October is when Sapa starts its sunny season: lots of clear blue days and far less fog than in summer. Looking up at the launch area this afternoon, there was not a cloud in the sky, and golden light poured over the bamboo grove and the rows of red flags fluttering in the wind. It makes you want to fly right away

Best Time to Fly

On sunny days like this, the best flying hours are from 9am to 4pm, with great visibility and a clear view of Muong Hoa Valley

If you want to fly at 5pm, please arrive at the site before 4:30pm. The reason is simple: after you arrive you still need to get geared up, put on your helmet, have the wing checked and listen to the takeoff briefing. If you come too late, it will be dark by the time you are ready and we cannot fly

Chasing the Sunset? Come Early

A vivid sunset in Sapa only happens on bright, clear days. When it is cloudy, there is almost no moment to wait for

A question many guests ask: why not chase the sunrise instead? In the morning, Sapa's terrain is full of low cloud, so sunrise is usually not very colorful. Sunset is the better show, so we recommend a late afternoon flight

To catch that moment, arrive early, sit back and wait. Do not leave it until the last minute

A Really Chill Waiting Area

The site has a comfortable waiting area under a roof, with wooden tables and benches, tea and a view straight onto the launch field. Just sitting there is relaxing: watching colorful wings laid out on the grass, then lifting off into the sky one by one

Many people who are not even flying come up to hang out all afternoon, sip some tea and take photos with the Sapa Paragliding 1500m marker and the "Eat, Sleep, Fly, Repeat" sign

Watching Takeoffs Is an Experience Too

My favorite thing at this launch is watching guests take off. Seeing each person run down the turf, their heart must be racing. Some shout out of excitement, some cannot stop laughing

And the best part is the whole group standing around the field cheering each other on. Whoever runs, everyone hollers, claps and throws their arms up. A few minutes earlier they were strangers, now they feel like one team. That is the team spirit you only find at a launch site

A Quick Tip

Sunny days mean more guests, so book ahead and arrive early to not miss the golden hours. A sunny October afternoon with a glowing sunset and gentle wind is the best time of the year to fly

See you on the Sapa launch field
