Sapa National Day 2026: Paragliding Over Golden Rice
Vietnam's National Day break runs up to five days, right as Muong Hoa Valley turns gold. Fly with Sapa Paragliding under the national flag wing.
This year National Day falls on Wednesday 2 September. Public-sector staff get five days off in a row, from Saturday 29 August through Wednesday 2 September, while most company employees take 2 September plus one adjacent day. That same week, Muong Hoa Valley below Sapa turns gold with ripening rice. It is the finest week of the year to see Sapa from the air.
⭐ The National Flag Wing — Only in Sapa
Over the National Day holiday, Sapa Paragliding flies a wing carrying the Vietnamese national flag. It is the only wing of its kind in the sky above Muong Hoa Valley. The flag opens out against the terraced fields, clearly visible from the Muong Hoa road and from Lao Chai and Ta Van villages below. People on the ground stop to photograph it; the passenger above gets a shot that cannot be taken anywhere else in Vietnam.
The number of flights under this wing each day is limited and depends on wind conditions. If you want the flag wing specifically, say so when you book so our flight coordinator can schedule it early.
🌾 Muong Hoa in Golden Rice Season
The Muong Hoa terraces are Sapa's best-known landscape, and from late August into early September the whole valley ripens at once. From around 1,500m you see the full sweep of terraces following the mountainside, the Muong Hoa stream running through the valley floor, scattered H'Mong and Red Dao villages, and Fansipan in the distance. On foot you only ever see one corner of it; from the air you finally see its true shape.
🕘 The Whole Experience Takes 60–90 Minutes
This is why paragliding fits a packed holiday schedule. We pick you up at your hotel in central Sapa, drive about 15 minutes to the take-off site at Hang Da village, fly over the valley, land at Lao Chai village, and bring you back. Pick-up and drop-off included, the whole thing takes 60 to 90 minutes — you can still ride up Fansipan in the afternoon or walk the night market after dark.
Flights run from 07:00 to 18:00 depending on the weather. Early morning usually brings the clearest sky and steadiest wind; late afternoon gives the best golden light for photos. One practical tip for the holiday: book your flight on the first day of your trip. If the weather turns that day, you still have the next day as a fallback.
👨👩👧 Who Can Fly This Holiday?
On a tandem flight you sit in front and the pilot sits behind, flying the wing the whole way. No experience, no training and no special fitness are needed. All you do is take a few steps on the pilot's command at take-off, and follow instructions at landing. Children flying with their parents and older passengers are both welcome — just tell the team in advance about weight and any health conditions so the right harness is ready.
🛡️ Safety: What to Ask Before You Book Anywhere
Holiday weeks always bring cheap flight offers. Before booking anywhere, ask three questions: is the operator licensed to fly, what certification do the pilots hold, and is the passenger insured. Sapa Paragliding operates under a flight permit issued by the Operations Department of the General Staff, Ministry of National Defence, and holds paragliding business licence No. 02/GCN-SVHTT from the Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Our team combines professional Vietnamese and international pilots, founded and led by pilot Dang Van My.
Our take-off and landing sites are two fixed, surveyed locations in regular use, not improvised fields. Equipment is checked before every flight. If conditions are wrong, we postpone — no flight is worth the trade.

We sell flights as a complete package rather than charging item by item. Full pricing, add-on options and holiday terms are all shown on the booking page. National Day is peak season with a limited number of flights per day, so the earlier you book, the safer your slot.
📅 How to Fit Flying Into Your Holiday
- Arrival day: check in, walk the town centre, visit the night market.
- Next morning: fly over Muong Hoa — take an early slot for the clearest sky, finished before noon.
- Afternoon: Fansipan cable car or Cat Cat village.
- Following day: trek Lao Chai – Ta Van, passing the very landing field you touched down on.
- Last day: buy local specialities and head home.
❓ Holiday FAQ
What if it rains? We track conditions hour by hour and tell you in advance. If we cannot fly, we move you to another slot or another day.
Do I need to book ahead? Yes. National Day and the July–September rice season overlap, and walk-in slots fill fast.
Will I feel dizzy or airsick? Paragliding is smooth, with no free-fall sensation. If you get motion sickness easily, tell your pilot and we will fly straighter with fewer turns.
What should I wear? Long trousers and trainers or trekking shoes with grip. No sandals, no skirts.
Are photos and video included? Yes, your pilot films during the flight. See the package article for details.
Can I fly alone? Yes. Many passengers fly solo with a pilot.
